Settling in and living together

People of many different nationalities live in Tasman, with one in five residents born outside of New Zealand. Since the first Māori arrived, Tasman has been settled by immigrants from different countries and cultures.

• 4,572 Tasman residents identified themselves as Māori in the 2018 census.
• Almost 2 in 10 (19%) Tasman residents were born in Europe (including the United Kingdom and Ireland).
• There are 48 different ethnicities living in the Tasman/Nelson region.
