Matariki Light Competition

Take part in the Matariki Light Competition

All around the region,

This a competition to embrace the Māori new year, a time of renewal and celebration.

Create a light lantern, light sculpture or light display which encompasses the essence or a component of Matariki to be in to win a class, business or household lunch shout!

Categories include:

  • Best Business in Tasman (Team max 30)
  • Best School Class in Tasman (Class max 30)
  • Best Residential in Tasman (household)

Your masterpiece should be:

  • Battery powered
  • Transportable
  • Represent the meaning of Matariki

To enter, email us a picture of your masterpiece 12pm Friday 7 July.

We will display your photo on our Facebook page(external link) and invite the people of Tasman to "like" their preferred entry in each category.

The photo with the most "likes" in each category by the end of the competition wins. The winner will be decided by the people of Tasman and be notified byTasman District Council.

The Facebook competition will open at 12pm Monday 10 July, and finish 12pm Monday 17 July.

Everyone is welcome to bring along their creation to be displayed at the Washborn Gardens Matariki Celebration on Thursday 13 July, where we will beencouraging people to head to our Facebook page and vote for their favourite.
