Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund

Help with travel costs for rural sports clubs and rural school teams. The goal is to help young people aged between 5-19 year-olds participate in local sports competitions.

Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund 

Sport NZ fully funds the Rural Travel Fund which is administered locally on their behalf by Tasman District Council.

Time of year

There are two funding rounds each year, closing 30 April and 31 October.

Criteria

The grants provide assistance for:

  • Travel costs related to local regular sports competition for junior teams (5-18 years)

The grants do not provide for:

  • Travel costs related to practice;
  • Travel costs of coaches;
  • Travel costs for regional or national events;
  • Travel costs related to interschool events during school time.

Selection process

A Council assessment committee made up of local councillors considers all applications and apportions available funds accordingly. More detailed guidelines are available when applications open. Please read these when making your funding application.

Accountability form

If you've received funding from the Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund, please complete this form with the details of how you have used your grant.

  • For the April funding round, the accountability form is due by 30 November.
  • For the October funding round, the accountability form is due by 31 May the following year.
