The Tasman District Council are able to provide scholarships of up to $500 each to students from within the Tasman District to participate in youth leadership opportunities, such as The Spirit of New Zealand(external link), Outward Bound(external link), Whenua Iti Outdoors(external link), and other experiences, conferences and workshops.

This page explains the criteria and links to the application form. Please note that applications must be received prior to the event taking place.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant must:

Live in Tasman District
Be aged between 15-20 years old
Be applying to a programme/project/training which has a central focus on youth leadership. Contact us first if you are not sure whether your programme will be eligible.
Agree to provide a report back to us.

The priority will be given to applicants who are able to self-fund 50%-75% of the project’s total costs.

Scholarships are for individuals only, not for teams or groups.
Activities promoting political parties and religious ministries will not be funded.
Applicants can apply once per calendar year.
Sponsorship is available for up to 50% of the total programme/project/training cost, up to a maximum of $500.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Please apply at least four weeks prior to the programme/project/training taking place. Sponsorship will not be granted retrospectively.
Any amount of the Youth leadership grant that was unspent should be retuned to the Tasman District Council.
Applications must be submitted via the form below.

Successful applicants must provide a report no later than four weeks after their project is completed.

We would like to know:

What was the best part of the project/event?
How has this experience enriched your life (did you make new friends, learn new skills, change your opinion/behaviour etc.) and how is it going to help you in the future?
How did you share your experience with your family and the community?

Unless agreed otherwise, the report should be provided in a form of a:

Power Point Presentation (5-10 slides)
Video (3-5 min)
Essay (300 - 800 words).

Reports may be published on this website or the Tasman Youth Council website, Tasman Youth Hub.
