Iwi Management Plans

Various iwi management plans are lodged with us to help us consider changes to resource management plans or statements.

What are the plans used for?

Iwi Management Plans are lodged with Council by Iwi authorities under the Resource Management Act 1991. It is a requirement under the Resource Management Act that whenever a council prepares or changes a policy statement or plan (e.g. the Regional Policy Statement and the Tasman Resource Management Plan) it must take into account any relevant planning document recognised by an iwi authority.

Iwi Management Plans can be wide reaching in scope, for example an iwi management plan may document Iwi worldview and aspirations for the management of resources, or a plan may focus on a single issue or resource.
