Workshops, Briefings and Confidential Information releases

Council regularly releases information to the public where there may be public interest in the subject matter.

To increase transperancy for the public the Council regularly releases workshops/briefings material and any previously confidential decisions/reports that have subsequently been made publicly available.

Workshops and Briefings

A workshop is an opportunity for elected members to discuss upcoming matters and provide guidance to staff.

A briefing (or briefing paper) is an opportunity for staff to present information to elected members on upcoming or important matters.

In most cases, the public do not attend workshops or briefings.

It is important to note that:

  • workshops and briefings are not meetings under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA). The chairperson of the relevant committee or workshop/briefing organisers decide how they will be conducted; and
  • no decisions are made at workshops or briefings; and
  • nothing discussed at a workshop or briefing becomes Council policy unless, and until, a decision is made at a formal meeting.

Workshops or briefings are included in our Meetings Calendar. See below for released Workshop and Briefing information.

Confidential Information

Confidential reports now include a restatement clause.  This identifies if and when confidential decisions, reports and attachments can be made publicly available.

See below for released confidential information.
