Gambling venue policy

We have a policy to minimise harm to the community caused by gambling.

The Gambling Act 2003 and the Racing Act 2003 requires Council to have a policy that has regard to the social impact of gambling within the District.

Objectives

The objectives of the policy include:

  • To minimise the harm to the community caused by gambling.
  • To allow those who wish to participate in gaming machine or New Zealand Racing Board racing or sports betting to do so safely and responsibly within the District.
  • To ensure that Council and the community have influence over the provision of new gambling in the District.
  • To control the growth of gaming machine numbers in the Tasman District by imposing a sinking lid on gaming machine numbers permitted in Tasman District.

The Policy was adopted in November 2019.
