Gambling venue policy

The Gambling Act 2003 and the Racing Act 2003 requires Council to have a policy that has regard to the social impact of gambling within the District.

Objectives

The objectives of the policy include:

To minimise the harm to the community caused by gambling.
To allow those who wish to participate in gaming machine or New Zealand Racing Board racing or sports betting to do so safely and responsibly within the District.
To ensure that Council and the community have influence over the provision of new gambling in the District.
To control the growth of gaming machine numbers in the Tasman District by imposing a sinking lid on gaming machine numbers permitted in Tasman District.

The Policy was adopted in November 2019.
