The Council wants to support our residents to keep safe, confident and legal on the road.
You or someone you know may need a little bit of help getting through the driver licensing process.
The Council may be able to help support you through this.
The opportunity is open to anyone who is struggling to get through the road code, or needs confidence with driving as it can affect people’s employment and general quality of life.
This support may be a driver assessment with a professional driver instructor before sitting your restricted or some extra training on the road code before you go for your learners. We may also be able to help with transportation costs supporting young drivers in remote areas who may have no other way to get to the driver testing.
To be eligible the driver should be a position where they cannot afford to pay for this service themselves.
If you think you may benefit from this, or know of someone that we could help, please get in contact using the following contact form, or contact the Council's Road Safety Coordinator on 03 543 7656.
If you are aged between 16-19 years old you can contact Youth Services to pay for your test fee.
They can also help you get a copy of a birth certificate to use as ID.
